Little White Church
The congregation that became North Highland United Methodist Church
held its first worship service on June 27, 1982 in the Roncalli High School Chapel.
On World Communion Sunday that year – October 3 –
the congregation moved into the “little white church,”
the former Westport Methodist Church, at 1404 North State Street.
The Charter Service for North Highland occurred on December 8, 1982
with Bishop Boulton, District Superintendent Kent Millard, Rev. Penny Eberhart
and 61 charter members in attendance.
The building served the growing congregation well until it was once again relocated to the
“Threshing Bee Historical Village” at Andover, South Dakota.
Other pastors that served during this time were Rev. Judy Mulock and Rev. Greg Kroger.
Rev. Sheila Richards served during the transition from the "little white church" to the new building.
Current Church
Ground breaking for the new site happened September 13, 1998
and on Pentecost Sunday, May 23, 1999 the first worship service was held
in the new facility located at 620 15th Avenue NE.
The children led the processional from the “little white church,”
followed by Rev. Sheila Richards and the remainder of the North Highland congregation.
Consecration of the new facility was held on July 11, 1999 with Bishop Mike Coyner officiating.
From June, 2000 to June, 2005 Rev. Royal Archer was pastor.
Rev. Marie Lanzillo presided from 2005 to 2008.
Rev. Mark Ehrmantraut presided from 2008 to 2013.
Rev. Lou Whitmer currently the presiding pastor.
The North Highland United Methodist Church is continuing it’s growth and
looks toward the future in anticipation of what God has planned.
