The Discipline of PRAYER
Some Ash Wednesday services have these words:
“You are invited in the name of the church to observe a holy lent by
self examination and repentance, by prayer, fasting and self denial
and by reading and meditating on God’s Holy Word.”
Here is an idea for the month of March.
As the days lengthen (lent) into Easter, spend time in self examination,
perhaps at the end of the day.
Turn some old notebook into a “journal” to write your thoughts
OR simply think on some of these things as a way of prayer.
For what am I most grateful today? Least grateful?
When did I feel closest to God today? When the most distant?
When did I feel myself opening to God’s love or peace?
When did I feel blocked from God’s love or peace? Why?
What was my day’s high point? Low point?
Was there a time when I felt I “saw” God?
Thank God for your day.
Peace of Christ be with us all as we journey through these 40 days.
Peace, Pastor Sheila
