"Change" is an often difficult challenge in our lives. Every day something changes.
Some change is good, of course it is good. I wonder if eventually we can say that all change is good? I am not certain. It takes a long time to see or understand something good that re-sults from "change." The children grow up and leave, someone‟s job disappears, others are "let go," marriages dissolve, tragedies strike, illness controls our lives, our loved ones die. You can probably add to the list. It‟s the list of life. Life is Change.
Psalm 46 begins "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult." Talk about Change! The Psalm concludes with (v10 NRSV Pew Bible), "Be Still and know that I am God!"
After all the chaos and change, God says BE STILL.
Have you found your place, your sacred space to enter into silence each day? Some-times the place/space is totally WITHIN each of us. We have only to enter a certain frame of mind, an attitude of silence. It is in the silence we refresh ourselves to keep on keepin‟ on in our noisy world of constant change.
Jesus had his place. He would find a lonely place to pray. Jesus seemed to need silence. I need some too. And you? Where is your sacred silent place? (Mark 6:45-46 NRSV Pew Bible)
