Prayer 713
If you haven’t put away the Christmas decorations, you may want to consider doing so soon, because the season of Lent is nearly upon us--Ash Wednesday if February 18th!
Though we may have at one time felt that Lent was to be a time for long faces and limited joy, observing Lent is intended to be a very positive experience. The real goal of Lent is deeper communion with God, and a greater awareness of God’s love and action in our lives—personally and together as the Body of Christ.
With that in mind, you are invited to participate together in Prayer 713--it’s easy, it’s something we will do together, and it’s certain to make a difference in our lives. Prayer 713 officially begins on Ash Wednesday. Prayer 713 basics:
*set the alarm on your phone, clock or e-device to either 7:13 a.m. or p.m.
*when the alarm sounds you will pray for any length of time you choose.
* particularly if prayer is new for you, keep them simple.
* pray wherever —if you can be away from distractions that’s great.
* we will pray for our church and its ongoing ministries.
*we will pray for possibilities, potential and transformation.
*we will pray for individual renewal, enthusiasm and commitment.
*we will pray for our world and our impact as the Body of Christ.
*sign up sheets will be available.
*weekly prayer ideas will be available on the website and in the bulletin.
What to do now:
*commit to Prayer 713 from Ash Wed to Easter (and hopefully beyond).
*figure out how to set the alarm on your device! Youth will be available Ash
Wednesday to assist you if needed.
*review your schedule to discern which prayer time will work best for you.
Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests
to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks.
Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your
hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 CEB
Whether a seasoned pray-er or a beginner, Prayer 713 is for all of us. Imagine what might happen as we pray together! May this be a positive experience for each of us and our church. May it also keep our hearts and minds focused on God’s abundant grace in Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace to all,
Pastor Lou
