THE SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE OF PRAYER
For What Shall We Pray?

A very long time ago, somewhere in my journey, I heard someone pray,
“make us conscious of the needs of others that we might help meet those needs.”
I cannot remember who or when or where I heard them.
I adopted those words and have prayed them often. I worry that I provide only lip service.

Lately, some of Jesus’ words have been bugging me. In his preaching regarding the judgment of the nations,
Jesus said, “And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of
these members of my family, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:41) The opposite is also true. See verse 45!

For my life, that translates into “when there is a need that I can help meet and I do it,
I will be doing it to Jesus.” And the opposite is also true! See verse 45!

Prayer is a discipline. It is something to be practiced as often as possible.
Some days it is a piece of cake. Others it is difficult. Prayer paves the way for hard work.

Peace,
Sheila
