Sounds of Summer
The scraping of shovels and the hum of snow removal is replaced by the sound of laughter and whatever 10 year oldboys talk about as they ride their bikes around and around parking lot! The gold finch who has apparently adopted us pecks on the window, and the robins who nested on the rain gutter sing and fly back and forth—and even scold once in a while. You too have no doubt noticed how alive the world is with the many sounds of summer—even the wind has changed its voice from the howl of winter to the rush of summer wind through the full trees. In just a few weeks the church will be filled with the sounds of children and youth discovering God’s Works of Wonder (W.O.W) during Vacation Bible School. Ahhh, yes--it’s summer in Aberdeen!
We love summer in this part of the country—summer revives us in a way only we who are “people of the endless winter” understand! We who see the ultimate glory of the changing seasons have opportunity to celebrate with an intensity many really cannot understand. How amazing is this world in which we live! God has gifted us with a creation whose existence and beginning far exceed our comprehension. And in grateful response we appreciate, protect and rejoice in its fullness and glory. Through all of our precious summer moments, in all that fills our senses, there too is the presence of our gracious God, whose spirit is in all living things. We praise God when we care for this creation, one another and our own beautiful spirits.
So fill your lungs with the fresh air, let the warmth of the sun fill your being and let your eyes feast on the colors and beauty of the days. And remember that your church remains open for the summer! We are extensions of not only God but one another. We are to take God’s love into the world, and also to gather together to pray, sing and remind ourselves and one another who and whose we are.
Let every living, breathing creature praise God! Hallelujah! Psalm 150:6 The Message
Peace and Blessings,
Pastor Lou
